Aurora Country Club at 5244 General Meyer Avenue in Algiers is a private New Orleans tennis and swim club located on 3 acres between General Meyer and the Mississippi River levee. Offering the finest in New Orleans tennis the club has eleven lighted courts. Aurora participates actively in New Orleans tennis by engaging other clubs in league competitions through a variety of groups. There are 32 other private and public facilities in and around the New Orleans tennis scene providing adults access to tennis facilities and competitions. In addition there are a number of organizations each contributing its part.. The USTA through USA League Tennis provides New Orleans tennis with a competitive boost by offering programs that get all the clubs to participate in weekly league / team tennis. In the fall and spring mens and womens doubles teams compete. In the summer mixed doubles competition is held. After each season the USTA holds state tournaments with the winners advancing to regional and national championships. USTA competition is held at several skill levels so that club players can compete against their peers. The Jefferson Community Club Association provides another venue for New Orleans tennis players to compete in league / team tennis. It also offers mens doubles team competition. The New Orleans League tennis association is another similar organization although it seems inactive since 2001, New Orleans tennis receives an organizational boost from the New Orleans Metropolitan Area Tennis Association. NOMATA provides a website used by several groups to organized New Orleans tennis players. Of particular note the NOMATA site includes the USTA schedules with location and detailed information not available on the USTA site. Other New Orleans tennis groups include the Crescent City Ladies and active programs at Local universities including Tulane and UNO.
